DON’T FORGET!! The DEAR book report is due on March 19th. Every student in 6th period knows about it. See the link to last week’s entry for an extra copy of the assignment sheet. I also posted it on Edmodo.
TAG Classes: We are beginning a poetry unit. The students will be responsible for researching about a poet’s life and writing an MLA documented biography about his/her life. They will also pick a poem to explicate (a fancy word for dissect, or explain). The final of the project is due March 26th, though there are many “milestones” along the way. Here are some:
Milestones
3-19 Thesis Statement— Monday night homework. Due Tuesday beginning of class. (Ms. D must approve)
3-20 Intro/ Topic sentence outline Class work Tuesday—due at the end of class. For homework Tuesday night: print-out or write your chosen poem. (Please post a copy of your in a message to me in Edmodo or e-mail a copy to me by the end of the week.)
3-21 Poem explication—class work Wednesday. Homework: rough draft of biography (including documentation and works cited). Important—not having this done on time can also affect your class work grade tomorrow.
3-22 Proofread rough drafts. Afterward, finish explications. (If you do not have your homework, it will affect your class work grade today as well.) This is the last day we will work on it during class. The rest must be done at home. If your printer doesn’t work or runs out of toner, plan ahead; print it at school before the due date. Printing your final when it is due will result in a “one day late” point reduction.
3-23 Other class work unrelated to poetry project.
Mon 3-26 Project due at the beginning of class. Here’s the order:
Final of biography, including works cited; Poem; Explication; Rough Draft; Outline.
Students will present their work in front of the class during the week of the 26th.
The project assignment sheet was posted on Edmodo on 3-16.

Students have had double the normal amount of time to complete this assignment (you’re welcome), as you have had your DEAR books since February 1st. I am hoping your products will reflect this extra time. Do not choose an assignment you did for any previous report.
You will be graded on: 1. following directions, and 2. evidence in your report that you read the book. Points will be deducted for late work, or work turned in without this completed assignment sheet on top.
